Entain: Grand National leads top 50 most bet-on 2025 sporting events

Entain has released an analysis identifying the most bet-on sporting events of 2025, drawing on global sportsbook data from its international brands, including BetMGM in the US.

The study excludes Australia, Eurobet, CEE, Enlabs and Crystalbet, and offers a snapshot of how bettors across multiple continents engaged with elite sporting competitions during the year.

Horse racing continued to demonstrate a powerful and enduring pull. The Grand National ranked as the single most bet-on event worldwide, reinforcing its position as a fixture that extends beyond racing enthusiasts into mainstream sporting culture.

Other major British races also featured prominently, including the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Coral Scottish Grand National.

Multiple races staged on the Friday of the Cheltenham Festival reached the top 50, highlighting the meeting’s role as a cornerstone of the racing calendar.

Entain Managing Director, Sports Greg Ferris said: “From Cheltenham to the Super Bowl, and from Champions League to the Libertadores Final, this list shows how our customers’ interests span continents and sports. The Grand National and the Super Bowl are cultural phenomena that transcend sports and are annual traditions for recreational customers.”

American football maintained its global betting footprint, led once again by the Super Bowl, which ranked as the second most bet-on event of 2025 overall.

Strong wagering volumes were also recorded for the AFC and NFC Championship games, indicating sustained interest throughout the NFL postseason.

Stand-alone televised games proved to be key drivers of betting activity, with prime-time regular-season fixtures and early-season matchups appearing high on the list.

Football always a big win

Global football was dominated by decisive fixtures rather than league play. The UEFA Champions League Final, Club World Cup Final and Nations League Final all ranked within the top 10, while South America’s Copa Libertadores Final also featured strongly.

Champions League semi-finals and quarterfinals appeared repeatedly, illustrating the tournament’s ubiquitous appeal across betting markets.

At the domestic level, Manchester United versus Liverpool emerged as the most popular club fixture globally, appearing twice among the top 50.

A Boxing Day Premier League match involving Manchester United and Newcastle United was the only domestic league game to make the cut, highlighting both the league’s global reach and the club’s continued international resonance.

Golf produced one of the year’s most notable shifts, with The Masters climbing into the top three overall. No other golf major reached the top 50.

Entain’s leadership noted that the data reflects a clear bettor proclivity for high-profile, one-off events that combine tradition, global visibility and competitive jeopardy.

It added that the breadth of the top 50 illustrates the company’s worldwide footprint and the varied interests of its customer base.
