Betr ventures into real money fantasy sports vertical with Betr Picks

Betr has entered the real-money fantasy sports vertical with the launch of Betr Picks, a pick ‘em style fantasy game.

The move places Betr in direct competition with established DFS sites while introducing its own unique twist on player prediction games.

Last month, Betr raised $35m in a Series A2 round of financing and revealed it had set its sights on diversifying its portfolio with two additional verticals, of which Betr Picks is the first to hit the market.

Betr Picks introduces a pick ‘em style fantasy game that allows users to make predictions on player performances.

Players can choose between “More” or “Less” from a wide range of player projections to build their lineups, with the option to select as few as two or up to eight players.

Users have the potential to win up to 100x their initial entry if they get eight picks correct.

Live in 24 states

The new fantasy sports platform is initially available in 24 jurisdictions across the US, including major states like California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Georgia, and North Carolina, which together account for over half of the US adult population.

However, Betr aims to extend its fantasy reach to a minimum of 30 jurisdictions by the end of 2023.

The company will only target jurisdictions where fantasy gaming has been legalised by statute or is permitted via case law or legal precedent.

“We are thrilled to expand the Betr Gaming business by introducing our real money fantasy sports vertical with the launch of Betr Picks,” said Joey Levy, founder and CEO of Betr.

“We believe Betr Picks already features a strong core user experience relative to existing pick ‘em products, and we have several material enhancements that will be released over the coming weeks and months including more sports, game modes, media integrations, deposit and withdrawal capabilities, and more,” he added.

The Betr Fantasy & Sportsbook app is currently available on iOS with plans to launch on Android soon. The launch marks the first time that sportsbook and fantasy will operate within a single app, according to Betr.

Product development

Betr Picks comes as an extension of Betr’s real money gaming business, which already has an established online sports betting presence in Ohio and Massachusetts and has plans to enter the Virginia market soon, with further expansion into additional jurisdictions in the pipeline.

The recent acquisition of the Chameleon platform from FansUnite played a crucial role in Betr’s product roadmap development.

The Chameleon platform empowers Betr to develop its upcoming V1 online sports betting product, a more advanced version with a comprehensive range of sportsbook capabilities, offering various bet types, markets and additional sports options.

“Betr Picks allows us to acquire and engage real money gaming users across the United States, enabling Betr Gaming to more fully capitalise on the nationwide presence of Betr Media for the first time, all while providing a complimentary pre-match experience to our in-play focused online sports betting product,” Levy said.

Betr Media, which acts as a marketing subdivision, has already surpassed 1.5 billion impressions on social media less than a year after launch.

The company will also be launching the @betrpicks sub-brand on social media, giving fans a more targeted community-driven vertical for fantasy and picks content.

The company said its commitment to responsible gaming continues with Betr Picks, which also features the same measures the company has rolled out for its online sports betting product.

Those measures include a 21+ age requirement, a ban on credit card deposits for all users, and deposit restrictions for young consumers aged 21-25 years old.
