MGM China warns against Pansy Ho deepfake video scam

MGM China has issued a warning about a fraudulent deepfake video that unlawfully impersonates the company’s chairperson and executive director Pansy Ho.

The AI-generated video falsely promotes a fictitious investment plan with unfounded promises of hundredfold returns, according to the Macau casino operator.

The company has declared the content entirely fraudulent with no connection to MGM China or its leadership.

MGM China said neither the company nor Ho had at any time been involved in, authorised or endorsed the purported investment plan featured in the deepfake video.

The operator said: “The video was neither created nor released by the company or Ms. Pansy Ho.”

The company condemned the acts of impersonation and misrepresentation in the strongest terms and said it reserved all legal rights against the parties involved to protect its rights and interests.

MGM China urges public to verify information

MGM China cautioned the public and media to exercise the utmost vigilance and verify information through official channels. The operator advised against believing in or disseminating such fraudulent content to avoid potential legal and financial consequences.

The company said it consistently adhered to the principles of lawful and compliant operations and that all business updates were communicated exclusively through official platforms.

MGM China added: “To prevent the further spread of misinformation, MGM China respectfully requests that all parties cease disseminating the fraudulent video and its associated claims.”

The warning comes as deepfake technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, making it easier for fraudsters to create convincing but fake content using artificial intelligence.

Such schemes often target high-profile business figures to lend credibility to investment scams.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) has previously warned scam compounds in South East Asia are making increased use of AI technology in their illicit schemes.
