Light & Wonder has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity Games in California.
The suit, which was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California in July, alleges that Zeroo Gravity mobile slot game ‘3 Stuffed Swine’ is a “blatant knock-off” of Light & Wonder’s popular ‘Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket’ game.
According to the complaint, Zeroo Gravity’s game incorporates numerous protectable elements from Rich Little Piggies, including character designs, visual style, and gameplay features.
The complaint read: “[Zeroo Gravity’s] copycat game incorporates numerous protectable elements from Rich Little Piggies in violation of [Light & Wonder’s] exclusive rights under the Copyright Act.
Zeroo Gravity game a ‘blatant knock-off’
Light & Wonder claims that Zeroo Gravity copied the exact design and appearance of the three cartoon pig characters central to the game, as well as other distinctive elements like background imagery and game icons.
The lawsuit said Light & Wonder released Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket as a physical slot machine in October 2021 and as a mobile game in April 2023.
Zeroo Gravity launched 3 Stuffed Swine in April 2024 as part of its Jackpot Friends mobile app, which Light & Wonder characterised as an imitation of its own Jackpot Party app.
The supplier also alleged Zeroo Gravity’s infringement was wilful and intended to capitalise on the artistic and commercial success of Rich Little Piggies.
The company is seeking damages, profits from the allegedly infringing game, and a permanent injunction to stop Zeroo Gravity from further infringement.
Light & Wonder claimed it attempted to resolve the dispute without litigation by sending a cease-and-desist letter in June 2024 but received no response from Zeroo Gravity.
Light & Wonder fends off infringement suits
The case is just the latest copyright infringement suit in the US supplier space.
Light & Wonder saw a 20% hit to its share price earlier in the week after a Nevada judge ordered an injunction on the company selling its Dragon Train game.
Australian slots giant Aristocrat had sued the provider in February, alleging copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation relating to its Dragon Link game.
The Matthew Wilson-led business is also defending a separate lawsuit in Nevada from Evolution.
The lawsuit alleges Light & Wonder stole confidential Lightning Roulette math files and payout structures for its own RouletteX and PowerX games.
