The Nevada District Court has told Light & Wonder it must remove pre-existing installed Dragon Train units from its customers’ casinos.
The court clarified its 20 September injunction and ordered the supplier to remove all land-based and online Dragon Train games by 23 October.
It follows Light & Wonder being told it must cease profiting from the popular slot game after its competitor Aristocrat sued it for copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation, relating to its own Dragon Link offering.
The land-based and online gaming supplier has appealed the injunction to the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
NEXT.io has confirmed that as of today (1 October) the company’s Dragon Train Chi Lin Wins offering remains online at BetMGM Casino in New Jersey.
The game was launched exclusively to the operator’s site in August and was to be the first of several titles in the series.
Other planned launches included Dragon Train Forever Emperor, Dragon Train Khutulun Battle Princess and Dragon Train Sun Shots.
Aristocrat filed an emergency motion on 26 September to enforce the injunction after arguing Light & Wonder was dragging its feet on implementation.
Light & Wonder share price slump
The injunction resulted in a 20% dip in share price for Light & Wonder despite the business reaffirming its FY2025 adjusted EBITDA expectations of $1.4bn.
Aristocrat is also suing the supplier over Dragon Train in the Australian courts, with the country’s Federal Court granting it pre-suit discovery earlier in the year.
Analysts were divided on the injunction’s long-term impact.
Truist Securities argued the share price hit could ultimately represent a buying opportunity for investors, while Macquarie opted to lower its adjusted EBITDA estimate by 1-2%.
Matt Wilson, president and CEO of Light & Wonder said last month: “We have the best game design talent in the industry, and they are creating great games across all our channels.
“We are excited about the new games we will be featuring at the Global Gaming Expo in October. We expect our strong growth trajectory to continue, notwithstanding this decision.”
Light & Wonder is also defending a separate trade secrets suit in the Nevada District from Evolution.
This case has seen the live casino giant allege Light & Winder stole confidential Lightning Roulette math files and pay-out structures for its own RouletteX and PowerX games.
