FanDuel has launched FanDuel Predicts in partnership with CME Group, marking its expansion beyond traditional sports wagering into regulated event-based financial and sports contracts.
The prediction market platform’s initial rollout covers Alabama, Alaska, South Carolina, North Dakota and South Dakota. It plans a phased national expansion over the coming weeks and into early next year.
The new mobile application allows users to express views on outcomes tied to financial indicators, cultural moments and sporting events by buying or selling event contracts. These are priced between $0.01 and $0.99.
FanDuel Predictions users can select “Yes” or “No” depending on whether they believe a specific outcome will occur.
The platform, announced in August, will be available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. It incorporates FanDuel’s existing Know Your Customer framework, according to the operator.
This will require users to submit identifying information. This includes date of birth, Social Security number, address, banking details, and government-issued identification.
FanDuel Predicts will offer contracts nationwide on benchmarks such as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100. It also covers commodities including oil, gas, and gold, selected cryptocurrencies, and macroeconomic indicators such as GDP and CPI.
Sports-related contracts covering baseball, basketball, football and hockey will also be available. This includes those states where online sports betting remains illegal, with the exception of tribal lands.
As states move to legalise online sports wagering, the platform will withdraw sports contracts in those jurisdictions. It said that it will create a regulatory boundary between licensed betting markets and prediction-based offerings.
CME to drive FanDuel’s prediction markets success
The relationship between FanDuel and CME Group underpins the platform’s structure.
CME Group operates one of the world’s largest regulated derivatives marketplaces. Its involvement provides the regulatory and market infrastructure that allows event contracts to function within established commodities and futures frameworks.
FanDuel, in turn, contributes its consumer-facing technology, identity verification systems, and experience managing large-scale digital wagering audiences.
The launch follows closely after DraftKings introduced its own prediction markets platform, DraftKings Predictions. This signalled growing competition among major sportsbook operators seeking to diversify beyond state-by-state betting laws.
The timing highlights operators’ aims to reach customers in jurisdictions where traditional online wagering remains restricted.
FanDuel stated that consumer protection measures will be embedded in the Predicts app from launch. Users will have access to deposit limits, automated alerts and self-exclusion tools. Mental health resources provided through Kindbridge Behavioral Health.
These safeguards mirror those used across FanDuel’s existing products. They’re intended to address responsible participation as prediction markets expand to a broader audience.
