The original founders of FanDuel, Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones, have launched BetHog, a cryptocurrency gaming and betting platform.
BetHog, a newly launched cryptocurrency casino and sportsbook developed by the original founders of FanDuel, has announced through its public debut.
The platform, created by FanDuel’s Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones and supported by $6m in seed funding, aims to bring innovative gaming experiences to the cryptocurrency casino industry.
Having emerged from a successful private alpha phase, BetHog is introducing a suite of casino games, encompassing both original titles and well-known games from studios like Pragmatic Play and Evolution. BetHog hopes the mix will appeal to both seasoned and new online gaming players.
“The crypto casino market has seen dramatic growth over the past few years driven by innovations like provably fair games, robust VIP programs and streaming,” said BetHog co-founder and CEO Nigel Eccles.
“With BetHog, my goal is to innovate even further by bringing unique and highly visual games to market. I want to offer users unique play-along and skill-based titles, combined with a robust VIP offering, but most of all, this is about maximising fun for our users!”
One of BetHog’s standout features, according to a press release, is its selection of exclusive BetHog Originals. These titles introduce innovative variations on popular game types like “crash” and “mines” and bring a fresh perspective to the emerging player-versus-player (PvP) genre.
A highlight of BetHog’s PvP offerings is the option for users to play alongside their favourite content streamers. This “streamer-friendly” aspect of BetHog’s design reflects a strategic focus on attracting users from the growing world of gaming and live streaming.
Tapping into cryptocurrency’s power
Built on the Solana blockchain, BetHog’s PvP titles are primarily supported by SOL, Solana’s native cryptocurrency. In addition to SOL, BetHog accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT across its other gaming offerings, giving users flexibility in their preferred cryptocurrency options.
The move into the global crypto gaming market comes at a time when both the online casino and cryptocurrency industries are experiencing rapid growth. The integration of cryptocurrency into casino gaming offers a secure payment method that has gained traction among players.
BetHog’s focus on product development and strategic partnerships is expected to help the company expand its reach and appeal to a broad audience of cryptocurrency users and gaming enthusiasts.
The platform’s emphasis on PvP gaming, in particular, reflects a shift toward interactive and social gaming experiences, which have become increasingly popular in recent years.
Restricted market access
BetHog is strategically positioned as a global platform, though it operates under specific jurisdictional restrictions in adherence to licensing requirements. The platform is licensed and regulated by the Government of the Autonomous Island of Anjouan, a licensing body known for its oversight of cryptocurrency and blockchain-based enterprises.
However, BetHog is not available in several countries due to regulatory restrictions. Among these are Australia, Austria, the Comoros Islands, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and the US.
In addition, FATF blacklisted countries and any other jurisdictions that are restricted by the Anjouan Offshore Financial Authority are off-limits, as well.
$6m investment led by 6MV
The initial $6m investment round was led by venture capital firm 6MV, with additional backing from Will Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Karatage, and Advancit Capital. Several angel investors also joined the funding, including Eilers & Krejcik, LLC Partner Emeritus Chris Grove and Josh Hannah, co-founder of Flutter.com.
BetHog’s initial funding will support significant investments in product development and growth through strategic partnerships. This will help set the stage for continued expansion in the cryptocurrency gaming market.
Looking forward, BetHog plans to continue investing in new features and titles while expanding its footprint through targeted partnerships in the crypto and gaming sectors.
