BetHog to shut down as founders pivot to AI live dealer business

BetHog, the online crypto casino and sportsbook founded by the creators of FanDuel, will shut down at the end of July as its parent company pivots towards Sentient Studios and its AI dealer product.

The company announced the news today (20 July), with the platform set to close on 31 July. Players will have until the end of the month to withdraw any remaining funds.

BetHog will cease operations less than two years after launching. The online casino went live in November 2024 under the leadership of former FanDuel duo, Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones.

Instead, its parent company will focus on its new Sentient Studios business, which it said has “drawn interest from tier-one operators” since launching a few months ago.

Sentient Studios was announced in April, alongside confirmation that the company had raised $10m in a Series A funding round.

Upon launching Sentient Studios, the company said it was aimed at replacing traditional live dealer infrastructure with AI-powered alternatives for online casinos. However, there was no suggestion at the time that BetHog would halt operations.

“The move is driven by real market demand” the company said in a short statement. “Sentient Studios is the only company with an operational AI dealer product currently on the market.

“BetHog’s engineering team has already shifted focus to Sentient Studios’ AI dealer. The underlying technology is being folded into Sentient Studios.”

Sentient Studios all-in on AI live dealer

After securing the new funding back in April, the company said it intended to use it to expand its in-house AI dealer technology and roll out Sentient Studios to third-party operators globally.

Just a few months later, several operators are looking to license the AI dealer offering, with some expected to go live later this year. The B2B platform lets casino operators deploy AI-driven live dealers without relying on traditional studio staffing models.

Sentient Studios operates on a revenue share model with no setup fees, monthly minimums, or long-term contracts. This, the company said, is intended to lower barriers to adoption.

The studio launch was not the first venture into AI. In October 2025, the company rolled out AI blackjack dealer ‘Sunny’ with BetHog. The product is now available in 12 languages and has become one of the most played games on the platform.
