Bally’s buys 20-acre Bronx casino site for $156.6m

Bally’s Corporation has acquired a nearly 20-acre site at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx from New York City for the construction of its upcoming downstate casino resort.

Property records show the business paid around $156.6m for the plot, which serves as a key development in its plans to build a new casino property after receiving approval for a downstate licence in December last year.

The deal went into contract in November and reportedly closed on 13 February, and grants Bally’s control of land currently used for the golf course clubhouse and parking areas at Bally’s Golf Links, as well as nearby roadways that will serve as the principal approach to the new complex.

The course was previously run by the Trump Organisation since opening in 2015, but Bally’s later acquired its operating rights for $60m in 2023.

Under the new land acquisition, Bally’s must begin construction on its new $4bn casino project within 18 months. Reports suggest the company is targeting a start on construction in late summer, although a zoning change is required before work can begin.

The planned casino complex features 3,500 slot machines, 210 table games and 40 poker tables, as well as 500 hotel rooms, a 2,000-seat event centre, nightclub, spa, food and beverage venues and retail shops.

Together with approved proposals for an expanded Resorts World casino in Queens and a Hard Rock property at Metropolitan Park, the three upcoming casinos are expected to generate $7bn in state gaming tax revenue between 2027 and 2036.

In addition, the projects are expected to create thousands of jobs and boost tourism in New York City, contributing further to the city’s and state’s finances.

Bally’s continues aggressive expansion

The news follows another recent development in Bally’s aggressive expansion efforts, as it confirmed last week it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport, Louisiana from Boyd Gaming Corporation.

The 514-room hotel and 29,000 square foot casino property is located adjacent to Bally’s Shreveport Casino and Hotel.

That transaction is expected to close in Q3 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and the receipt of required regulatory approvals.

Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim said of the deal: “We see meaningful opportunities to reinvest in the market and further strengthen Shreveport’s position as a premier destination for gaming and entertainment. We look forward to sharing more about our broader vision and plans for the property and the market in the near future.”

Kim spoke to NEXT.io in January about the operator’s expansion strategy, which has a renewed focus on building as well as buying assets.
