Entain has launched proceedings against matched betting business Oddsmonkey in the English High Court, alleging intellectual property infringement.
The suit, titled Entain Operations Limited and others v Liquidity Trading Limited and others, was filed yesterday (21 August).
While no documents are currently available, the IP lawsuit is a civil Part 7 Claim, for passing off and trade marks.
Entain Operations Limited, as well as its subsidiaries LC International Limited, Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming Limited and 365 Scores UK Limited, are named as claimants in the action and are represented by Wiggin LLP.
Meanwhile, Oddsmonkey and Outplayed.com holding companies Liquidity Trading Limited and Liquidity PA Limited are listed as defendants, as well as Samuel Stoffel.
Stoffel was the founder and CEO of Oddsmonkey’s rival matched betting service Outplayed.com before the two groups’ merged in December 2024.
While Stoffel has a seat on the Liquidity PA Limited board, he is not currently working in management at the business.
Matched betting, while not illegal, is not popular with bookmakers as it uses their free bets and other offers against them to earn money.
Both Oddsmonkey and Outplayed.com catalogue potential opportunities and offer step-by-step guides to beat the bookies at their own game.
Outplayed.com’s website says: “Matched Betting is a way of turning bookie free bets into cash. We do this by placing multiple bets on the same event to make sure we cover every possible outcome, and we use free bets to lock in a guaranteed profit – as long as you do it correctly! That’s right, win, lose or draw, you’ll make money!”
NEXT.io has reached out to both Oddsmonkey and Entain for comment, as well as further information about the nature of the action.
