The strongest month of the year for traditional US iGaming brands is nearly the weakest for sweepstakes.
The strongest month of the year for traditional brands is nearly the weakest for sweepstakes.
Blask data for three years (from June 2023 to May 2026) shows that two iGaming segments rarely share the same seasonality pattern. Traditional demand tracks the sports calendar and peaks in autumn, while user interest in sweepstakes is strongest in spring. But the weakest month is common to both.
Peak seasons and the shared floor
Traditional iGaming demand in the US is driven by the sports calendar. It climbs when the National Football League (NFL) season opens in September, holds through autumn, and lifts again in December as the playoff race builds, before bottoming in summer. September ranks as the strongest month nationally, with October and November directly behind it.
Sweepstakes casinos by their nature do not have any ties to sports events. Their demand gathers in spring: March ranks first nationally, and the strongest run holds from that month through May, surpassed only by December and January.
The divergence is widest in September – traditional iGaming reaches its highest demand of the year, while sweepstakes sits 11th. And the worst month, June, is what sweepstakes and traditional iGaming segments share.
The picture across 50 states
On a state-by-state level, demand for traditional iGaming brands concentrates around the same autumn months. One of them is the peak of iGaming interest in 40 states. In seven states the peak month is December, which is number four nationwide. Three states break the pattern: Vermont peaks in January (5th ranked month across all the USA), North Carolina in March (6th rank), and Rhode Island in May (9th).
The demand for sweepstakes is not so concentrated. Its peak spreads across nine different months, with no single one leading: January and May tie at the top with 13 states each, followed by March in nine jurisdictions and April in seven. The two segments reach their high in the same month in only one state – Vermont in January.
At the same time, traditional iGaming and sweepstakes brands show a much more similar demand pattern for bottom ranks. August is the only month when user interest does not peak in any segment or state at all. But June is the worst month for traditional brands in 26 states, and for sweepstakes – in 32.
The second worst month for traditional online casinos and bookmakers is July, as it ranks 12th in 18 states. But sweepstakes demand bottoms out in July in only one state – Wyoming.
Bottom line
Sweepstakes demand is a pure interest for gambling, rather than for the mix of casino and sports betting products of traditional iGaming brands. That interest runs on its own schedule, and is not tied to a single peak season.
