DraftKings reveals online betting and casino plans for Alberta

DraftKings has announced plans to launch its online sports betting and casino products in Alberta, pending licensure and regulatory approval in the Canadian province.

The operator said players in Alberta can pre-register for DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino ahead of the expected roll-out. Earlier this month, Alberta’s government confirmed the market would launch on 13 July.

Should DraftKings go live in Alberta as planned, it would represent its second online launch in Canada. The operator has been active in Ontario with its mobile sports betting and casino products since May 2022, just weeks after the marked opened.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” said Greg Karamitis, executive vice president and general manager of sports at DraftKings.

“With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup, hosted here in North America, it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”

DraftKings continues to expand its North American reach

The Alberta launch would mark the 34th North American jurisdiction where DraftKings offers online sports betting, and seventh with online casino.

In February, the Arkansas Racing Commission (ARC) also unanimously approved a vendor licence for DraftKings, allowing it to launch its sports betting product in the US state.

DraftKings secured the licence after striking up a partnership with Southland Casino Hotel. Southland has since replaced its Betly-branded mobile sportsbook with the DraftKings platform

FanDuel was also approved to launch in Arkansas at the same time as DraftKings. The Flutter Entertainment-owned brand entered the state through a partnership with Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
